Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2x is a reformulated version of innisfree’s customer-favorite facial mask.

It contains the next generation of Jeju Super Volcanic Clusters to absorb twice as much oil and impurities as the last version. Importantly, it does this without drying or stripping your skin, which clay masks often do.

Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2X targets clogged pores, dead skin cells, skin texture, dirt, and oil to purify and detoxify the skin. It is formulated to help to improve your complexion while reducing the look of enlarged pores.

The star ingredient in the formula is Jeju Super Volcanic Clusters, which are made up of finely ground and hardened volcanic lava pieces.

The volcanic clusters have multiple benefits for the skin. They cleanse, absorb excess sebum (oil), help to remove dead skin cells, and reduce the look of pores.

All innisfree products are produced on Jeju Island, South Korea, an island rich in volcanic ash. The hot lava fragments formed clusters as they cooled. Volcanic ash consists of rock fragments, volcanic glass, and minerals.

These minerals are essential for the skin as they help to nourish and detoxify it. The minerals can even provide antibacterial benefits for the skin.

Let’s take a look at the rest of the active ingredients that make this clay mask so effective:

  • Glycerin: A moisturizing ingredient, glycerin helps skin cells to retain moisture and makes skin look dewy, fresh, and plump.
  • Kaolin: Kaolin works as a gentle exfoliant, removing dead skin cells to reveal smoother skin underneath while reducing the appearance of pores.
  • Trehalose: Trehalose is a sugar that helps to soothe sensitive skin, is hydrating and protects it from drying out.
  • Bentonite: This clay has great oil-absorbing properties and helps to remove impurities and dead skin cells.
  • Lactic Acid: Lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), is one of my favorite chemical exfoliants. Lactic acid is a gentler exfoliator than other AHAs (i.e., glycolic acid), and helps to loosen the bond between dead skin cells, allowing them to be swept away easily. The result is smoother, brighter skin with a more even skin tone and a reduction in the look of pores.

Even though the mask contains clays that can dry your skin, it also contains natural moisturizers, such as glycerin, trehalose, and mannitol, which help keep the skin hydrated. Lactic acid even has moisturizing properties.

The mask also contains walnut shell powder that acts as a physical scrub and helps exfoliate dead skin cells.

Kaolin and bentonite clay ingredients in the mask purify your skin by binding to oil, dirt, and other impurities. When the mask is washed off, it draws out the impurities along with the oil and dirt.

Perfect for normal, combination, and oily skin, this mask is all about a brighter, more radiant complexion.

The mask is also ideal for acne-prone skin to help dry out and reduce the look of acne and blemishes.

This mask is made without animal-originated ingredients, mineral oil, fragrance, imidazolidinyl urea, triethanolamine, tar colorants, and parabens.

innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2x opened

Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2x has a creamy texture with micro-granules that are noticeable but not overly abundant.

You can feel the small pieces of volcanic clay, but there’s not a lot of them, so they don’t make the mask uncomfortable or gritty.

The mask instructions say to let dry for 15-20 minutes. I found that a thin layer quickly dried in 10 minutes in my current cool and dry environment. My face felt tight, which told me it was about time to rinse.

I saturated a washcloth with warm water and gently massaged my face in circular motions.

It took a little elbow grease, so to speak, to get all of the mask off, but after removing it, my face felt fresh and clean, without feeling stripped or dry.

Sometimes when I use clay masks, they can be too drying, but I didn’t notice that with this mask. Of course, I always follow with a hydrating serum and moisturizer.

I really appreciate the affordable price. It retails at an affordable drugstore price, precisely what a clay mask should be priced at.

Innisfree could try to charge more since it contains their proprietary Volcanic Clusters, but they don’t, making the mask accessible for all budgets.

Drawbacks

A drawback of this clay face mask for me is that it can get a little messy due to the dark shade of the product.

It also takes a little effort to remove, which may leave sensitive skin red or irritated, so be sure to patch test before using the mask for the first time.

I will be reaching for this mask when I experience breakouts and clogged pores since it does such a good job of clearing away dirt and oil.

NOTE: Be sure not to overuse the mask. It may be tempting if you have oily skin, but once or 2x a week is plenty, depending on your skin type.

If you are looking for a daily clay mask, innisfree just introduced a Pore Clearing Calming Clay Mask with Volcanic Clusters which can be used daily to calm, hydrate, and exfoliate the skin in just 3 minutes.

How To Use innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2x Review

Apply this rinse-off face mask on clean, dry skin. Avoid the delicate and sensitive skin around your lips and eyes. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes until it dries.

You’ll notice that the color lightens up a bit once dried. Rinse with warm water. You can use this clay mask once or twice a week.
