Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream
Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a Korean skincare cream formulated to quickly soothe skin sensitivity.
This award-winning blue cream is filled with actives that help to reduce redness and inflammation while also hydrating and replenishing the delicate skin barrier.
Guaiazulene gives it its blue shade and is a compound extracted from chamomile oil.
It is used in skin care products for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, making it an excellent choice after sun exposure or for irritated, sensitive skin.

Use Midnight Blue Calming Cream as a spot treatment, on areas of redness, or, if need be, all over your face if you have inflamed or irritated skin.
It’s formulated for sensitive, acne prone, and oily skin types.
It’s ideal for post-shaving irritation and after using potent actives like retinol or exfoliating acids, sunburns, and laser or post-skin treatments.
Midnight Blue Calming Cream is fragrance-free, vegan, and cruelty-free.
Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream Key Ingredients
Glycerin: Glycerin, also known as glycerol, is a humectant that helps to draw in and retain moisture in the skin. It is an excellent moisturizer, is non-irritating, and prevents transepidermal water loss in the skin.
Centella Asiatica Extract: Centella asiatica extract, also known as gotu kola, is a plant extract that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine for its wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties.
It is a rich source of triterpenoids, which are compounds that have been shown to promote collagen production and reduce inflammation.
Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter: Shea butter is a natural fat extracted from the seed of the shea tree. It is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, which help to protect and nourish the skin.
It also offers anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil: Argan oil is a plant oil produced from the kernels of the argan fruit.
It is filled with moisturizing fatty acids and vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from free radical damage from UV rays, pollution, and other environmental factors.
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil: Jojoba oil is actually a wax ester and is unique in that it closely resembles the sebum of the skin.
It is non-greasy, absorbs well, and is known for its skin softening properties. Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog pores, making it ideal for those with oily and acne prone skin.

Portulaca Oleracea Extract: This plant extract is derived from the purslane plant and is rich in beta-carotene, vitamin E, and nourishing omega-3 fatty acids.
Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract: Also known as chamomile extract, this herbal ingredient and plant extract is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps to soothe and calm inflammation.
Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract: Broccoli extract is a natural antioxidant that helps protect the skin from environmental pollutants.
Morus Alba Root Extract: Morus alba root extract is a natural antioxidant that has brightening benefits and helps to reduce uneven skin tone.
Guaiazulene: Guaiazulene is a natural extract from the chamomile plant with anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
Ceramide NP: Ceramide NP is a type of lipid found in the skin’s outermost layer. It plays a key role in the skin’s barrier function, helping to keep moisture in and harmful substances out.
Think of ceramides like “mortar” that holds skin cells together. They play a vital role in repairing and preventing damage to the skin barrier. By replenishing the skin’s ceramide levels, Midnight Blue Calming Cream helps to strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss.
Sodium Hyaluronate: The sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate is a natural component of the skin that helps retain moisture.
It is a powerful humectant that helps to hydrate and plump the skin.
SH-Oligopeptide-1, SH-Oligopeptide-2, SH-Polypeptide-1, SH-Polypeptide-11, SH-Polypeptide-9: A blend of five peptides that are Growth Factors that stimulate fibroblast cell growth, healing or proliferation.
Fibroblast cells are wound-healing and responsible for the production of collagen, which gives the skin firmness and elasticity.
Acetyl Hexapeptide-8: Also known as Argireline, this peptide, like Botox, targets the wrinkles that form due to muscle contractions, especially around the forehead and eyes.
Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream Review

The soothing cream is light blue and has a creamy consistency. The blue shade quickly fades away once it absorbs into the skin, so it won’t leave you looking like a Smurf!
I recently used this cream after using retinol for too many days in a row. My skin would get red every time I washed my face and after applying every product in my skincare routine.
I applied this cream as the last step of my evening skincare routine (on top of my regular moisturizer), and after a few minutes, my skin really calmed down, and the redness subsided.
The small jar (shown above) is only 1 ounce, but I don’t use this cream every day, only as a rescue when my skin needs immediate soothing. I’ve had great results, so I can see why it is such a cult favorite.
The 1 oz version of the cream comes in a glass jar and requires you to use your finger to scoop out the product, which isn’t very hygienic, so I use a cosmetic spatula to dispense the cream.
It comes in a larger 2 oz size tube which is much more sanitary and better suited for travel.

The cream is unscented and absorbs quickly without any greasy residue.
A little goes a long way, so you don’t need much to cover your entire face if you are dealing with widespread irritation or redness.
The cream is formulated for sensitive, acne prone, and oily skin types.
I think this would also appeal to those with a dry skin type, but you may need additional moisture, as this isn’t formulated to replace your regular moisturizer.

Overall, I think Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a great rescue cream. I love knowing that I have something on hand when my skin freaks out from one of the many products I am constantly testing.
It’s a great option for those with sensitive skin or as a rescue cream for damaged skin, skin irritation, inflamed skin, or burns from excessive sun exposure.
Will I repurchase it? Absolutely!
Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream: Drawbacks
- Even though you don’t need to use much of the product, the 1 oz jar is not a lot of product if you like to use it all over your face.
- The product may feel a little heavy on your skin if you use too much.
- The 1 oz glass jar is a bit heavy, so it’s not great for travel.
- It’s more expensive than other Korean moisturizers that you can purchase at drugstore pricing.
How To Use Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream
Apply this calming cream as the last step of your skin care routine. Klairs suggests using a small amount in a thick layer on desired areas.
Be sure to follow with an SPF of 30 or higher in your morning skincare routine.
As with any new product, be sure to patch test before using it for the first time to avoid any allergic reactions.
Should Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream Replace Your Moisturizer?
Depending on your skin type, you might want to use this alone or in combination with your regular moisturizer.
I like to apply Midnight Blue Calming Cream after a moisturizer for additional hydration and soothing benefits.
Dry skin, in particular, might want to apply a moisturizer underneath this cream for added hydration.
