COSRX Propolis Light Ampoule Ingredients

COSRX Full Fit Propolis Light Ampule with dropper

The ingredient list is short with only 11 ingredients (listed in order of highest concentration to lowest concentration): Propolis Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Betaine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine.

Let’s take a look at how the active ingredients can benefit the skin:

Propolis Extract

Propolis comes from the resin of trees that bees use to build and seal their hives (it is also known as “bee glue”). The bees collect the resin and mix it with wax, pollen, and other compounds to produce propolis.

Propolis has many benefits for the skin. It is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, and has antibacterial properties, which makes it appealing for acne-prone skin.

It also contains an abundance of phenolic compounds, which are known for their antioxidant properties.

These properties can help the skin by reducing inflammation, fighting free radicals, and reducing the visible signs of aging like wrinkles, dullness, and fine lines.

Glycerin

Glycerin is an underappreciated humectant that helps bind moisture to the skin, shields the skin from irritation, and supports a healthy skin barrier. Excellent for dry skin.

Betaine

Derived from sugar beets, betaine is a natural amino acid and a humectant that has moisture-retaining properties. It is considered an osmolyte, which helps the skin balance its water levels to optimize hydration.

Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract

Also known as Chinese senna extract, this plant extract is supposed to offer antioxidant and emollient benefits that protect and replenish the skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium hyaluronate is a salt version of hyaluronic acid that is an excellent humectant, meaning it helps the skin retain moisture.

Sodium hyaluronate can hold 1,000 times its weight in water, so it’s a great ingredient for a dehydrated or dry skin type.

Panthenol

Panthenol is a form of vitamin B5 that is often used in skin care products because it has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.

Arginine

Arginine is an amino acid and building block of proteins like collagen that has healing and moisturizing properties. It is a Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), which means it is one of the substances our bodies produce naturally to moisturize the skin.

Cosrx Propolis Light Ampoule Review

COSRX Full Fit Propolis Light Ampule sampled on palm of hand next to bottle

COSRX Propolis Light Ampoule comes in a cute container that mimics the colors of a bee with its black and yellow design and a lid with a medicine dropper attached to the handle that looks like a honey dipper.

When you see the word propolis, you may think of bees and honey and stickiness.

But don’t let that dissuade you from trying this ampoule. Its texture is a bit thicker than a water-based serum, but there is zero stickiness in this product.

It leaves my skin feeling smooth and plumped without any tackiness like regular honey. It is nicely hydrating and leaves my skin with a bit of a glow.

I’ll pair it with a lightweight moisturizer during the day. It works well under makeup too.

It comes in really handy when my skin is dry and irritated after using retinol too many days in a row or when it feels especially dehydrated.

What Is An Ampoule?

An ampoule is a skincare product popular in Korean skincare typically made up of a high concentration of active ingredients. It is meant to be used as a treatment or added boost to a skincare routine.

Since ampoules are so packed with active ingredients, they may have a higher price point because of the concentration of the product.

What Is Propolis?

Propolis is a mixture consisting of resins, waxes, essential oils, pollen, and other compounds collected by honey bees from tree sap, buds, plants, and other flora depending on the time and location of the collection.

Bees use propolis to seal, patch, and protect their hive from intruders.

Propolis is a Greek word. Pro translates to “at the entrance to” and polis translates to “community” or “city.” This means propolis is at the entrance to the city or community of bees and there to protect it.

Propolis is available in green, red, brown, gray, and black varieties depending on hive location and the flora of the local environment available to the bees.

Is COSRX Cruelty-Free?

COSRX is a cruelty-free brand. COSRX does not test on animals at any stage of the production process, from raw ingredients to final products.

They do not hire or work with any third parties to conduct animal testing on their behalf and do not sell in mainland China or other locations where animal testing by law is required for all cosmetics.
