Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum Review

Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum is a best-selling Korean vitamin C serum that contains pure vitamin C, sodium hyaluronate, and niacinamide to help brighten and hydrate skin. Since I like to use a vitamin C serum on my skin every day, I’ve been using this serum daily to see how it performs.

Spoiler: I think it’s one of the best Korean vitamin C serums, especially for those that have sensitive skin!

I’ll discuss my thoughts about and experience with the serum in this Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum review.

It helps fade hyperpigmentation, dark spots, acne scars, and dullness while addressing other visible signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of firmness.

This Korean serum has been reformulated to contain natural ingredients that improve stability and prevent rapid oxidization. (Pure vitamin C is notoriously unstable and tends to degrade quickly when exposed to heat, light, or air.)

The serum is vegan, cruelty-free, essential oil-free, and fragrance-free.

Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum Key Ingredients

Bambusa Vulgaris Water (76.23%): Water from the Bambusa Vulgaris leaves, which have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Ascorbic Acid: The one and only pure vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from photodamage due to free radicals that come with UV exposure and other environmental stressors.

Vitamin C stimulates collagen synthesis, which helps to improve firmness and skin elasticity and reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines.

Vitamin C also helps brighten skin and reduce the look of sunspots and uneven skin tone, as it inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the production of melanin (pigment) in the skin.

Unfortunately, vitamin C eventually oxidizes and turns brown when exposed to air, heat, and light, so it’s best used within a few months of opening. Vitamin C at high concentrations may also be irritating to the skin.

Lower vitamin C concentrations, like in this serum, are ideal for those with more sensitive skin types.

Niacinamide: Another all-star skincare ingredient, niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that has multiple benefits for the skin.

Niacinamide improves skin elasticity, increases ceramide production (lipids that help keep skin hydrated) for a healthy skin barrier, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, and helps to calm and soothe irritated skin.

Niacinamide can also help to balance sebum production and is effective in the treatment of acne, making it a good choice for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate: A form of hyaluronic acid that is a humectant and an excellent hydrator for the skin, as it acts like a sponge to draw in and hold moisture in the skin.

Adenosine: A skincare ingredient that has anti-inflammatory benefits that can help with skin barrier strengthening and repair. Adenosine may even help support collagen production for improved skin elasticity and firmness.

Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum Review

Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum has a clear thin gel consistency and comes in a pump which makes it easy to apply. It does not irritate my skin at all and absorbs quickly without leaving a sticky or oily residue.

I like to use it during the day to get antioxidant protection from the vitamin C in the formula.

I love that the serum also contains niacinamide since it’s one of my favorite skincare ingredients. Niacinamide does so much for your skin.

It has anti-aging, barrier repair, and anti-inflammatory benefits. Plus, it’s great for dullness and uneven skin tone.

I have somewhat sensitive combination skin that tends to get dehydrated in the winter.

I was thrilled to see that after using this daily for a few weeks, this serum has not made my skin dry as I’ve experienced with other vitamin C products.

I appreciate the fact that the pump is packaged separately from the bottle, which helps keep the serum fresh until you are ready to use it.

This is especially important when dealing with ascorbic acid, which can lose its potency quickly. The dark brown bottle also helps protect the serum from sunlight which degrades vitamin C.

Since you should use a vitamin C serum within a few months of opening (see instructions on how to use it below), the low price makes it easy on your budget to repurchase.

Drawbacks? It may not be potent enough for some since it only contains 5% ascorbic acid.

The Bottom Line: I really like this serum and will continue using it to get the non-irritating benefits of 5% pure vitamin C, along with hydration and sebum balancing benefits of hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

How To Use Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum

Apply 2-3 pumps of the serum to your face and neck after cleansing and toning your skin. Follow with a moisturizer and be sure to apply sunscreen as the last step of your morning skincare routine.

Purito notes that you can expect mild tingling since the serum contains pure vitamin C.

The acidic nature of the pH is what causes this tingling sensation since the serum is formulated at a low pH level of 3.5 +/- 0.5. The skin’s natural pH tends to fall around 4.7, so the serum lowers the skin’s pH, which can cause irritation.

If you have sensitive skin, apply a smaller amount to start or mix the serum with your moisturizer until your skin builds a tolerance to the ascorbic acid in the serum.

Do not use the serum with other potent actives and exfoliating ingredients like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) such as glycolic acid or lactic acid, beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) such as salicylic acid, and retinoids like retinol.

The YouTube video below from Purito discusses changes that the shade of the serum undergoes due to oxidation and when it’s best to toss the serum. In general, the serum is best used within three months of opening. Store the serum in a cool, dark place, and be sure that the pump is tight to avoid exposure to air and light.
